Dr. Chigozie Achebe, Ed.D., LGPC

Practicing Since: 2021
Chigozie’s goal is to create a trusting atmosphere for her clients so they feel a sense of safety and support as they share and confront their problems and issues. Chigozie believes it is important to build rapport with the client by meeting them where they are before addressing the problem. She provides counseling to adults, adolescents, and groups with disorders such as anxiety and depression. Chigozie’s counseling style is holistic and integrative; some of the techniques she likes to incorporate into therapy are cognitive behavioral, client-centered, psychoanalytic, and existential.
Chigozie’s view of mental health and the therapeutic process is based on her awareness, competency, and professional relationship with diverse individuals, families, and groups. As a therapist, she believes it is her commitment to practice in a competent and ethical manner, addressing her client’s mental wellness, education, and career goals.
In addition to her LGPC license, Chigozie completed both doctorate and master’s degrees in Adult Continuing Education. She has taught at both secondary and postsecondary levels, and advocated for others through community activism, and social entrepreneurship. Chigozie completed her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capital Seminary and Graduate School, a division of Lancaster Bible College.
Chigozie is single, an avid family history researcher, and enjoys traveling and shopping. She is the mother of three adult children, also grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Chigozie is licensed in the state of Maryland (LGP13113) and under the clinical supervision of Telisa Hickson, LCSW-C (Maryland license #17375).
