“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mercedes Peterman graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She was inspired to become a mental health counselor after witnessing the resilience and growth that can occur when people feel truly supported and understood.

Mercedes’ approach to treatment is integrative and person-centered. She draws from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), while tailoring interventions to each client’s unique goals, experiences, and willingness to grow. Mercedes prioritizes building a strong therapeutic relationship and creating a safe, collaborative space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore challenges and develop practical strategies for growth.

Mercedes strives for clients to leave treatment with a stronger sense of self-awareness, practical tools for managing life’s challenges, and increased confidence in navigating change. Above all, she wants each client to feel empowered to build a life aligned with their values, strengths, and goals, and finds inspiration in helping individuals rediscover their abilities, navigate challenges, and create meaningful, long-term changes.

Mercedes Peterman, LGPC, is licensed in the state of Maryland (#LGP9022) and under the clinical supervision of Nicole Green, LCPC (#LC4253).
