JaVon Townsend, LCSW-C

As a clinician, JaVon sees herself as a facilitator working with people through life’s challenges. Her role is to help create a gentle space for people to work through their healing process. JaVon works from a holistic, strengths-based, and culturally-informed perspective in getting to know her clients and in their ongoing time together. It is important to her to follow the client’s lead in deciding what they need from the therapeutic process, and to honor their lived experience of all the things that make them who they are.
JaVon uses an eclectic approach to therapy including elements of person-centered, developmental, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems theories, as well as mindfulness practices and psychoeducation. She also incorporates creative arts and movement-based techniques.
In the last 10 years, JaVon has worked with individuals, children, and families from all walks of life, mostly in community and education settings. She considers it an honor for her to be invited into the lives of people during a vulnerable time, and it brings her joy to be able to witness healing and growth.
