Anna Cuccinelli, M.S., Resident in Counseling

Practicing Since: 2024
Each client comes into therapy with different needs, and Anna adapts the environment of each session to meet the specific needs of the client. While some clients benefit more from intellectual conversations and thought challenging, others benefit more from simply having a place where they can cry and express raw emotion without fear of judgement. Still, one client may benefit from being confronted with problematic behaviors, while another may simply need to be met with gentleness and compassion. Whatever environment a client needs is the environment Anna tries to create. Anna focuses on empowering clients using therapeutic tools that can be used to work through both current and future struggles. The aim is to help clients develop a greater ability to stand on their own two feet.
Anna believes that the therapeutic process is intended to facilitate deeper self-discovery and flourishing in a client’s daily life. It is a team effort, involving a client who brings the relevant information about his or her life and a therapist who brings the means to restructure, organize, and clarify that information so as to facilitate the desired flourishing. The counselor is not there to “fix” the presented issues, but to guide the client through the process of working through their own problems.
Anna views mental health through a holistic view of the human person, recognizing that each client is affected by five domains in their life: emotional, cognitive, social, physical, and spiritual. Each of these five domains affects the others, so it is only logical that all five must be addressed to various degrees throughout the counseling process. The therapist’s focus will always be on the emotional and cognitive domains first, but the other three domains nearly always rear their heads in the process of therapy.
Anna greatly enjoys doing little art projects which can range from collaging, to writing poetry, to drawing, or some combination of these. Though Anna is not musically trained in any way, she can never get enough of it and has an eclectic music taste. Though Anna enjoys art a lot, she prefers to spend most of her time with friends and family.
Anna is a Resident in Counseling (VA Lic: 0704018235) in the state of Virginia, under the clinical supervision of Stacey Crosson, LMFT (VA Lic: 0717001506).
