Tamyra Folkerts, LGPC

Practicing Since: 2024

Tamyra creates an environment of understanding and acceptance which enables trust and openness. She views mental health as looking at the whole person – physical, emotional, behavioral, and experiential.  She believes that clients want balance in their lives and need the right environment and therapeutic relationship to find balance.

She has a special interest in helping clients navigate communication challenges, parenting concerns, and conflict resolution. Tamyra is also passionate about supporting families in crisis, equipping individuals with essential life skills, promoting anti-bullying strategies, and exploring spiritual issues when they are part of a client’s journey. When working with children, she incorporates child-centered play therapy to help them express themselves, process emotions, and build resilience in a developmentally appropriate and engaging way.

Tamyra and her husband love watching their grown children parent four Grands, as she calls them.  She loves to read historical fiction, listen to podcasts, create oil pastel art, lift weights, spend days on the Chesapeake Bay, snuggle with her Portuguese Water Dog, and spend time with family and friends.

Tamyra is licensed in the state of Maryland (Lic # LGP16325) and under the clinical supervision of Shon Miller, LCPC (MD Lic #:LC5433).
