“Pain is inevitable, misery is optional.” – Unknown

Ian Embry graduated from Norfolk State University with a Master’s degree in Social Work. Ian believes that every person is capable of creating meaningful change in their lives, regardless of what they have endured. Inspired by the neuroplasticity of the human brain, he helps individuals recognize how their brains respond to the world and understand their capacity to reshape neural pathways and foster lasting growth.

Ian approaches treatment through a person-centered lens, fostering acknowledgment, compassion, curiosity, and acceptance of one’s past while honoring how life experiences shape the present. He recognizes that each individual brings a unique set of circumstances, identities, values, and experiences into the therapeutic process, and therefore believes that treatment should be tailored to meet each person’s specific needs. By emphasizing cultural humility and gaining an understanding of a client’s values and worldview, Ian works to build a strong and meaningful therapeutic relationship. He also views mental health through a biopsychosocial lens, recognizing the interconnected influence of biological, psychological, and social factors on overall well-being and mental health concerns.

Clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and accepting environment where they feel safe to openly share their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Guided by a collaborative approach, Ian provides empathetic, reflective listening as clients explore the personal events, relationships, and challenges that have shaped their lives.

Ian Embry, Supervisee in Clinical Social Work, is licensed in the state of Virginia (#0906015699) and under the clinical supervision of Krystal Tinsley, LCSW (#0904013651).
